I keep expecting to find 'secret' recipes or something. Like, properly seasoning stuff, or even just hitting arbitrary food flavor scores, that unlocks some special bonus. But it seems like there's nothing there? Maybe I just haven't played far enough yet, but the game seems... ahem... bland?
You know what pisses me off more than this game being slow, grindy, and an obvious pay to play thing? If they'd just sold the game on Steam for $5 and no microtransactions, I'd buy it right off the bat. Oh, and there's NO F*CKING MUTE BUTTON.
The idea here almost reminds me of an old game I played called Tumiki Fighters (or something like that) where your size was directly proportional to your damage output and score, but also made you easier to hit, so you were more likely to get pieces blown off and have to collect new ones. Here? Here it's just dumb. You get big to get stronger, but then you get hit. Normal enemies just die instantly, while bosses are a pain because you can't dodge if you're huge. A flawed idea, at its core.
I've said it before and I'll say it again now. Locking 90% of the content behind a timer because the player has to wait an arbitrary amount of time to upgrade buildings or grow food is a disgusting way to make a game work. The only reason to do this is to artificially drag out a game and create a long-term source of ad revenue from a player. It circumvents the point of a game by sucking away the fun and replacing it with mindless waiting, and it should NOT be on here. This is a site for games, not for reasons to do nothing.
The real shame is, the game itself looks like it might be pretty fun, if only it didn't take hours to get to the next piece of content. You guys should really work on that.
What bothers me here is that a lot of the 'badges' make it sound as if you have an element of choice, and you don't. I played through the first three areas, and at no point was I offered a choice as to where to go next, or what to upgrade. I understand wanting to control progression, but I don't feel like I should be rewarded with bonuses when all I did was what the game told me to.
For a game called 'Decision', this game sure does offer you a whole none of them.
Sure, there's different missions, but the pattern is always the same, and the 'choices' are based on basic math, not any real decision between equal options.
Pretty interesting twist at the end, and it actually countered the doubts in my head about the quality of the story fairly nicely; wrapping up all the loose ends I was thinking were just messed up details. The gameplay is really boring, though. I wish there would be a game where you had to actually make CHOICES about your upgrades.
Okay, is it just me, or does it annoy the hell out of anyone else that gems will fire on enemies that are being banished, and then the shots will disappear? It makes it really damn hard to kill swarms once they reach your orb, because over half your shots never hit, unless you set your gems on 'random', which can often get you killed.
I know people have said this before, but I want to add my voice to the mix. Taking out critical gameplay elements that make up almost half the game is really kind of annoying. I wouldn't mind premium content, if it was stuff like higher difficulty modes or special challenges. Putting the challenges in, then making them impossible to achieve without paying is just obnoxious. Making the skills needed to win certain levels without an asston of luck premium is obnoxious. Making premium mode give out skill points is stupid too; games shouldn't be won or lost based on amount paid, but on skill, and treating it as a pay-to-win sort of situation is just silly.
I know this is kind of nit-picky of me, but everyone else already covered the actual gameplay problems, so this is all that's left. At the end of the game? When you accept your faith? It's 'fate'. You accept your 'fate'. Accepting your faith would be like admitting that you believe in something, and while you could argue that applies here, it really wouldn't make sense because the fountain is right in front of you, and you don't really have to believe in it to know that it's eating you.
I honestly did give this game a 1/5. Yes, the developer raises some excellent points about how we judge games. Yes, it's clever and somewhat ironic. No, that does not make it a good game. It's barely a game at all. So, poor rating. I guess that makes me a cold bastard, but there it is.
Would have liked some more unlockables, maybe some more varied levels and enemies. Aside from that, good game. The best sign of a good game, I think, is that the biggest thing I can complain about is that it doesn't have enough stuff in it.
Okay, let's get something clear here. You have set your game in space. There are no ground units. There are no air units. Tanks and jet fighters do not function in space. Turrets should not have different targeting modes.
Thanks for your comment. I know its pretty bad atm and i am working on it to make it clear.
