Also, zomg I'm mentioned in the credits. This is a really cool game, and it's cool to be able to look back and remember back when it was in it's infantile stages. So much has changed.
I love how it's impossible to buy armor until the very last set - every time you get enough money it automatically bumps you up to the next level. The weapons aside from the bow are totally useless and the aiming is impossible to use.
It's a good start to a game, but not a good game yet. 3/5
So, now I've got the game working. And I think this is the first time I can honestly say, I wish I hadn't.
The map system in this game is utter garbage - It's worse than useless. It tells me nothing I didn't know intuitively. The HP restoration is easily exploited, but at the same time infinitely maddening, because after I die I have to go and clear the level 1 cave in order to restore everything. Skills give no kind of indication as to their damage, and stat contribution is a mystery.
The community interface, similarly, is garbage - None of the commands are in the least bit intuitive for an MMO. There's no kind of instructions in-game for how to use it and clicking the question mark doesn't do a thing.
All in all, this game richly deserves the 2/5 that I'm bumping it up to. I'm not giving it a 1 because it actually works. Sort of.
As much as I hate leaving terrible comments about a game, this one richly deserves them. I've refreshed 11 times now, and gotten to play the game exactly twice. And when you don't know if it's the game locking up or just the godawful UI being itself, you know something is terribly wrong with the game.
I'm not even talking about the game content (for a free flash MMO, it could be worse. I think. I've experienced very little of it). A game that cannot reliably play on a high-end system, much less a flash game, is one with serious problems.
Fix the game, make it load reliably and respond like a real-time game, and maybe I'll give this a higher rating, but for now, I cannot in good conscience give this anything higher than a 1/5.
First off, the balance needs a lot of work - Normal towers en masse work for pretty much every level. The pencil is almost entirely useless after the first few levels, and most frustrating of all, if you play on 2x speed (and 1x speed is too ridiculously slow), the waves will get stuck, over and over, making you restart again and again.
Add a 3x or maybe even 5x speed button, fix the sticking glitch, and either nerf normal towers in the 3rd and 4th upgrades, or make the other towers better, and you'll have a good tower defense game.
Until then, 2/5.
Honestly - this is better than the actual youtube. Especially since you can search and watch in a single tab. And still chat on kong. Seriously - This is fantastic.
Fantastic tool you've made here, Locos.
I absolutely love this, especially the ability to loop videos. Why that feature isn't on youtube proper yet I cannot fathom.
It's a great game, and totally deserved the 5/5 (Nothing at all to do with Zil_ offering me snickerdoodles. *shifty eyes*). However, the one major complaint I have about the game is the way the pieces are setup. It can be hectic and confusing searching for the piece you want amongst a jumble.
Perhaps you could make it resize pieces outside of the "frame"? If you made them smaller, it would be feasible for a player to drag and drop them all out there so they can easily organize them.
Ad appendum to my previous comment:
One way I think you could implement the "differing skill level" feature would be to allow rewinds. Essentially, give us the option to "undo" a boxman creation, so that we don't have to keep meticulously reapplying the same steps and hoping that we get lucky on the runthrough.
It's an interesting game, with a great concept. I gotta admit, I liked it a lot, although, unfortunately, it paled rather quickly for me because of the perfect timing required (especially for level 10, I still haven't beaten it) ultimately detracts from the game.
Personally, I believe that for puzzle games, there should be more than one solution, and while the one you, as the creator, use, might be optimal, there should be more workarounds that cater to differing skill levels.
A good example of this would be Exorbis, because you could spend literally forever solving it, if you so chose.
Anyway, I digress. The art was nice, the music was cute, and the concept was well-implemented, though I feel it is perhaps a bit lacking at times. A solid 4/5 game in my opinion.
