Impressive shootorial! Obviously pretty heavily based in the tutorials themselves, but there are definitely some nice touches. Glowing reward text looks nice, as does the final boss's movement. Clearly you've learned well! Hope to see more games once you've learned some more actionscript.
thanks again to everyone whose been commenting! I agree that upgrades/different weapons would be a great idea. I was going to start an entirely new project, but given the relatively positive feedback I've seen here, maybe I'll just expand this one beyond the scope of a simple shootorial.
Very nice game...definitely like the other floating castle game but MUCH better. Instructions could have used some work as the beginning was confusing but certainly an interesting, compelling game.
saw the comment about removing the pause button to prevent cheaters...not that the lack of a pause button bothered me (i didnt even notice it) but couldnt pausing also just black out the screen? I guess this would mean a little bit of work but it shouldn't be that hard and apparently would help some people.
a lot of people are having trouble creating ships with transparent backgrounds...allow me to explain what I did to solve this problem.
First, download a good image editor like GIMP 2 (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/). Then open up the ship image you've created. Next, in GIMP click 'Layer' in the task bar, go to 'Transparency,' and click 'Add Alpha Channel'. Once this is done, click the background on your image that you want to make transparent. Then hit the delete key. A checkered background should appear, indicating you have a transparent background. Finally, click 'Select' -> 'None' and save your image as a .PNG file. Replace your graphic in Flash with this one and you should have a functional ship!
Worked for me, and I hope it works for you.
WOW this is an awesome game...very creative. Could have used a somewhat better interface though. Maybe controls/glyphs should have been added as the game progressed as well. The basic game doesn't change from start to finish and that isn't very good. Really a lot of potential for fun though.
But BOY was level one difficult and extravagant. Who would've known duplication glyphs were necessary?: c,10,9;d,3,9;d,12,6;c,13,12;m,13,9,180,2,;m,7,9,0,2,wwjcllollwwww;m,3,12,0,2,wucldodru;m,6,9,180,2,wwwwwjcruodl;m,9,12,180,1,rllrjwclluuodrrwd;m,10,12,180,2,crorrrww;m,12,3,90,2,crol;m,4,5,90,3,jcrrror;m,9,6,180,1,wwwwjwwwwclluorrd;m,7,10,90,1,wujdcrruuorrd;m,13,10,90,1,clluuoddllw;m,13,2,90,3,wwwwwwjclllowl;
bah people who think this game is boring are sort of shallow imo. the idea is that its an experimental game; something fresh and new that is not intricately developed because it has little precedent to base itself off of. I think this game is well done and very sweet. i would be happy to play more like it.
This game turned out quite well I think...it was interesting to learn the quirks of each piece. This was how I got the pieces to balance in the very end (I'm sure someone has already posted this but here it is anyway):
On the right the head is balanced with the dry rock.
On the left the squid and birdhouse are together on the right and balanced with the submarine which is alone on the left and is balanced with the bowling ball and the bucket together on the right (the bucket is empty; do this by holding your mouse over the spigot).
Hope that made sense and helped!
also, for people who are wondering what castles do, there is eventually a lock on the board that requires you to have captured a certain number of castles (I dont remember how many...many 6?)
blah if not for the right click play glitch this would be an excellent game, perfect for badges. however, from what i saw by cheating ahead, it seems like things could get rather repetitive.
this game is much much better than the first one. i really love it...the bonus heads are cool, the customized levels were a great idea as they provide an interesting level mix but since the levels are new the playing field is evened.
there is only one problem with this game. and it is a large one. i was rank seven with everything unlocked up until the bird body, and i got disconnected. when i logged back on, i was rank 0 and had nothing. idk if i can get anything back...but common thats bs.
in case ppl want to know, you get the minimalist guitar by going through a song w/o hitting a note and butterfingers by getting over 1000 mistakes in a song.
review-wise, im likin this game...but its just missing something that makes it worse than the first one. there are more repeating rhythms for one thing and i dont know how i feel about that. still good though.
