I find that the 1) unintuitive/unnatural physics, 2) lack of checkpoints, 3) camera not looking farther ahead, and 4) levels designed mostly for perfect jumps, create a need for frustrating mindless experimentation to find timings. All the unfair spike deaths are ruining the atmosphere, so to speak.
Warriors looking on in horror as I make a pike that bends offscreen, a mace with twelve pegs next to the handle, a bow with negative tension and something that doesn't even look like an axe.
I believe the science and educational part of this game is as well-done as possible, so my main comments are about gameplay. First, it would be nice to have undo and level select functions, especially because some rooms are impossible to backtrack through. Second, some of the wiring sections are really difficult to control if you aren't in fullscreen, which is an option that many players might overlook in the WebGL version. Third, the memory usage of this game is surprisingly high, could that be reduced somehow?
I generally agree with your comments. If I had had more time I would have tried to address them. Memory usage; I did. a lot of work to bring it as low as I could -but I guess ultimately this game was designed more for native execution on low-end PCs and Macs and I hoped that the browser platform would kind of catch up bu the time I had finished it - but it hasn't really happened yet.
(Salty rant) It's a stupid hard badge that asks you to play a game that was designed for grinding - why do we still get these, JuicyBeast? - way beyond where grinding would do anything, and honestly I believe the game was never built for it. After 24 hours of play and collecting 3 million gold, I believe I've seen everything possible in the game, and yet I'm no closer to 65000 than I was 6 years ago. The badge reveals all the lag, control issues, unfair mechanics, unpredictability of hits and luck factors that don't belong in a Best of 2012 game. This badge made me lower my rating for the game, so it basically has a negative fun value. It needs to be killed with fire and lava at least a thousand times over.
Level 10 without damage: you should have max laser & allies, autofire(Z), mouse control. Play to the center, left, center, right, repeat. The bullet sweep across the center occurs after 8 side volleys. Move to the corners before it, wait, and then move halfway up the edge to avoid the leading corner of the sweep before quickly dodging rockets back to the center.
@Beranek: West of the gnome shrine, there's a gate that's controlled by a pressure plate, pushing a gnome south if he's standing in it. Blocking that spot makes it freeze.
Oh, see, there are so many combinations to consider. I didn't think anyone would place one gnome inside the gate, another gnome south of the gate, and then step on the switch with a third gnome :D But I'll fix that, thanks for letting me know. The engine is definitely not built for this kind of switching between three characters, I had to improvise a lot. :D
Wow - you really did your homework! :D Maybe we'll come up with some achievements for things like that in future Episodes!
