Description
Poker Quest. A challenging roguelike deck-builder that uses playing cards (Ace, King, Queen, etc.) to activate your abilities.
How to Play
Poker Quest is a roguelike playing card deck builder. You draw cards from a standard 52-card deck (Ace, King, Queen, etc.), and you use those cards to activate your equipment.
Controls: Mouse only.
In the world map, make your way to the right.
Combat is turn-based. You start by drawing 2 cards per turn. Your cards are on the left, the enemy's cards are on the right. To fight, select the playing cards from your hand, and then select the equipment you want to use them in. After you spend your playing cards, end your turn.
Once you get some chips, you want to find shops to spend them in. Otherwise, buy upgrades in the Character screen (be sure to upgrade your card draw!)
Tooltips are everywhere. Read them!
This is a PRE-ALPHA version of the game. It will have some bugs, performance issues, and the graphics are not finished - it is mostly sketch art.

games like this are the reason I go to Kongregate. Truly a breath of fresh air. great mechanics, complex system, great replayability. As others have mentioned, could benefit from some polishing - tutorial, clearer instructions, more gradual progression of difficulty, but this is already a fantastic game and has to potential to become a true masterpiece in my humble opinion. Adding a compelling story (who is the protagonist and why are they going 'East'?)

Lots of promise. A little bit of a tutorial would be nice (it took me a few battles to notice I could use both cards at once, and I also didn't notice the character upgrades for quite a few battles). Also, the settings button is currently doing nothing for me... might not be implemented yet.

please add easy difficulty back. I'm not good at the game but had a blast on easy. now I find it difficult and frustrating. the increased difficultly makes it no longer any fun at all

Love this game! Was super bummed I couldn't finish my playthrough bc I had to go to work, but such is the way with alpha stage games. The core mechanics are great and it even seemed fairly balanced already which is bananas. This feels like a top-tier flash game from 2007 as it is right now. My biggest fear is that it'll trade that flavor for some art style that isn't to my tastes. But since "2007 Flash game" probably isn't a bankable aesthetic, I can't really complain. Just don't jam it all up with a bunch of skinner-box mechanics, please.
