Row out onto a dark lake with a lantern, a rod and the feeling that something below is watching.
Night Lake is a calm, eerie fishing game. Cast your float, watch it bob in the lantern light and strike when it really goes under. Fight each fish with reel and rod: keep the line tension out of the red and lean the rod against the pull. Sell your catch at the dock, buy better baits and tackle, and take on the night’s quests.
But the lake is not empty. The lantern stutters, the crickets fall silent, and a shadow longer than your boat glides underneath. Monsters need their own bait and strong gear, and can tow your boat across the water. Each lake hides a legend.

W/S row, A/D turn (or the arrow keys), or Right Click the water to row there (hold to steer). Hold Left Click on the water to aim, release to cast. Left Click or Space when the float really goes under, then hold to reel in; with a feeder, strike when the bite alarm sounds. In a fight keep the tension out of the red and hold A/D to lean the rod away from the fish. R reel the line in, C groundbait, E dock shop (at the dock), G tackle box, B next bait, J quests, V field guide, M markers, H fishing help, P pause.

Night Lake v1.16 – Easier First Minutes and a Gentler Road to the Next Lakes
A BETTER START
- After your first fish you fish freely until you land three, then the game shows you the way to the dock.
- Short hints after the first catches, and a “Cast your line!” reminder if you row around without casting.
- Skip the tutorial and you get a free pack of starter bait, so everyone starts equal.
- When the second lake opens, an arrow shows you the way there once.
THE FIRST LAKES
- The first lake is now a training lake: fish come to your float, no more nibbling, a tap that is too early no longer scares the fish, and a bite always comes within a few seconds.
- The second and third lakes are gentler too: the wrong bait still catches common fish, the right bait is much faster and brings new and rare species.
- From the fourth lake on, fish are wary again.
BITES AND BAIT
- No more nibbling anywhere: a fish looks briefly, then pulls the float under. Monsters still warn you with heavy waves and a red ring.
- On your first visit, each lake tells you its best starter bait, and offers to sell you some (or gives you a few for free) if you keep using the wrong one.
SMALLER THINGS
- The shop asks before you release a fish for nothing, or equip gear weaker than what you use.
- Better handling of very small screens.
- Stability fixes.

When catching a fish the meter goes to 0.6m and just freezes there until the blue bar at the top empties. No matter how quickly you reel in the fish it will not actually catch it until that top bar is empty for some reason.

Thanks a lot for reporting this, it was a real problem! Until now the line could reach 0.6 m while the fish still had strength, so it looked frozen. It's fixed in today's update: a fish with strength left now fights about 2 m from the boat and tires quickly there, and once the blue bar is empty it comes straight in. Good tackle also tires fish faster now. Thanks for helping make Night Lake better!

Game is too slow, also it should be allowed to complete multiple quests at the same time, otherwise it only worsen randomness
Thanks for the honest feedback! You're right about quests: right now only the one you pick counts, which can feel random when the lake gives you other fish. Letting all three quests on the board count at the same time is a good idea, and I'm looking into it for the next update. About the pace: could you tell me which part felt slow, the waiting for a bite, rowing, or the fights? Good tackle does make fights much shorter, but I'd like to know where it dragged for you. Tight lines!

Is there a way to use mouse only? If not, may I suggest right clicking and using the mouse to guide where to go? Not sure how hard it would be to do, but would love to see that option. Other than that, fun game and very relaxing!
Thank you for playing and for the kind words! Right now the boat moves with WASD or the arrow keys, but your idea is a great one: we're adding mouse-only rowing in the next update — right-click the water to row there, or hold right-click to steer toward the cursor. Tight lines!

Awesome! I love it, well done. The water have a nice realistic looking. Calm & peaceful places to visit.
While reeling, don't forget to use the ''a'' and ''d'' (when the left or right yellow arrow light-up) to kinda fight the fish to your boat.
Thank you so much, really glad you enjoy the calm of the lake! And great tip about A/D, holding the rod away from the fish tires it much faster. Today's update adds a new lake, Deadwater Mill, with its own legend, and a TACKLE sign in fights that shows if your gear is strong enough. Tight lines!

Thank's for the feedback. Hey, Did the game can be downloaded somewhere, i do not want to loose it. (oO) Can you put it on ''Steam'', for us who want to always have access to this awesome fishing game. I found that there is so much more to this game that what i saw first. I am talking about, there is 15 lakes to visit, large choice of lures, rods, markers, baits, boat, etc...). oh, and the things (ex: messages in a bottle...) that float on the lake, we can't catch them heh? if yes, how?.

Right now Night Lake plays only in the browser, and your progress is saved there automatically, so it stays as long as you don't clear your browser's site data for Kongregate. A downloadable version is something I'd love to do in the future. If that happens, I'll announce it here first. The bottles and other things floating on the water are just part of the scenery, so they can't be caught, for now. There are 7 lakes so far, each with its own fish, monsters and a legend to hunt, and more are on the way. Tight lines!
