I actually like this. The unforgiving controls actually gave it quite a challenge.
I would suggest that instead of having the water limit the max speed that you instead just increase the friction. It behaves oddly right now when you the max speed is lifted and you suddenly have a -50 y velocity.
The strategy at the moment is two fold.
1.) Grow your initial asteroid as big as possible. Those early moments in the game will pay big dividends as your asteroid splits apart many times in the future.
2.) Instead of trying to crash into the ship fly around them all in a big circular pattern (all your asteroids must be clumped together). If you do this all of the ships will be herded into one clump. Dive into the clump and take them all out at once. NOW... repeat the "herding" process. BUT this time they will all shoot at SAME TIME... letting you dive in to kill them all again without getting hit.
dapbot, The life meter shows the life of the biggest asteroid (the blue one). If another asteroid grows bigger it will switch to show you that one.
The main way to survive in the game is to grow single asteroid big so when they finally do die they will spawn big pieces... which will spawn more pieces... and so on.
So it can be useful it seeing how careful you need to be with "prized" asteroid.
I've made a minor update.
By popular demand you can now leave one side of the screen to enter the other. This required a bit of balancing to not make it to easy. So now the ships are invulnerable until they fire their first show.
I also added mouse support which I think works pretty good. Space bar will toggle it off and on.
And I limited the max size of an asteroid to 150... to prevent the endless loop situations.
Please let me know your thoughts!
Hey zhack! How did you do that? I've played so many time and couldn't reach that point.
You actually hit a "Victory" position I was thinking of adding. But I figured it wouldn't be possible.
Thanks guys! I'm glad you are liking it! You will REALLY enjoy the next version.
With the life gain (and addition of bonus ships every 100 and 500) and careful tactics you can survive a long time. I've cleared over 2500 ships on a good run.
It will be coming very soon and released as a separate game with V2 at the end. Or perhaps a catchier title if anyone comes up with one. :)
Thanks again for the positive comments. I really appreciate them!
Thanks Muffalopadus! Moving off the screen made it to easy... you would just hold a single arrow key down and "wipe" the board clean. Plus, I explained the "lack of freedom" in the story. :)
I've got another version in the works. Basically you gain a small amount of life (and size) with every ship you take out.
This creates the potential for actually "winning" by generating a huge asteroid although I haven't actually been able to win yet.
It does increase the number of ships you can kill above 1000 and creates a little more strategy.
I'll upload it once I get a few more tweaks finished and implement the Kongregate high score API.
Ok, I have a first version up and running. It could still use some serious polish but I think its fun! (unbiased opinion). :)
What a fun idea! Thank you ArchBob!
The game is questionable on "fun"... but the idea is SOOO brilliant that I gave you a 5.
Maybe when you get hit you split into two rocks but you still control them both at the same time with the keys.
