@ Janity -- Yeah, but I actually agree that it's a contrived plot device. I tried to cram the basic elements of the story into as many paths as I could, which meant a little more repetition than I would've liked. It's one of the things that bugs me a lot looking back on the story now. I'm avoiding it for my next one.
I'm not sure why the medium badge wasn't working for some people, but I changed its back end a bit with the hope that my fiddling would fix something by pure chance. Please send me a whisper through my profile if it's working better or if you're still having problems.
@ Molordias -- My second story will actually have 3 options. The total ending quantity will probably be lower, but they will be much different from each other (honestly about half the ones in this game are pretty much the same), and the plot lines across different branches will be more unique. There will be lots of converging paths to keep the ending quantity under control, though. The story/characters/themes will be completely different, also. We'll see how it works out!
There's currently some flakiness with the third badge. If you've completed all the quests but one isn't registering, try refreshing and loading your game again. We're looking into a better solution -- sorry for any inconvenience.
"It is ranked #1 in highest rated games!? It was only two days ago! Kongregate fixing the ratings? Never!" Damn, you caught us! We've been fixing the ratings to promote more games from rival portals, hopefully pushing that pesky Epic Battle Fantasy 3 off the front page.
@timegamer -- Yeah, I can see how that part isn't explained very well. My original idea behind the simulation is that it's more of a Star Trek-style holodeck sort of thing than 100% digital, which is why Future Todd can get injured and he doesn't really have any Matrix/Neo-type superpowers other than being invisible and being able to leave and come back. That raises questions about the logistics of where it physically takes place and how Future Todd gets there and back, and these things aren't really discussed anywhere, though. Looking back I agree that that's one of the weaker parts of the overall story, and I probably would have written that section differently if I were to make another editing pass. Oh well!
"Uh oh, I think Greg used Level Progress instead of Game Progress for the All Cats go to Heaven Badge. Basically bonus levels count towards it, when they're not supposed to. Oh well."
Yeah, I did, whoops. Fixed now.
Everyone is giving minuses to miomo's "final cat-down" comment, but I totally would've used that for a badge name if I'd thought of it. Have an up-vote, miomo.
Don't think you've won this round, Jennifer. You might look super cool with your sunglasses and Matrix-style theme going on, but your gold-digging nature is clearly outlined in the text behind your character portrait. You like slow-motion kung-fu almost as much as you like shoes, gold, rings, and chocolate, right?!
Akarsh, I would highly encourage writing in general if it's something you're interested in. I started writing short stories and half-finished novels when I was about 13. Most of what I've written is embarrassingly awful (trust me, not just being modest), but it's the only way to get better. I wouldn't consider this story all that great either, but it's at least better than most of the other stuff I've written, so I'm at least making progress.
