He doesn't fall fast enough for level 3 to be enjoyable. Jumping past the spiky enemies on stage 2 makes you have to jump way earlier than when the character actually hits the creatures. On level two, you don't even need to race the spikes as you will pass the grass platforms and not be pushed out of the screen.
