Simply fantastic. So many memories! I love how you can go back and listen to the tracks of games you got right and read all the trivia. The little characters running around are a really nice touch too.
Hoping it doesn't become a popularity contest, but the voting seems reasonable so far... I like how several have posted thought-out reasons for their votes.
There's just way too much luck involved. I can't even get close to beating it with full upgrades unless I consistently run into accelerators and gas tanks.
I REALLY like this. It's entirely original, the mechanics are perfect, and although it took a few levels for me to understand how the whole concept of it plays with/against you, it definitely become a lot more fun after that. The only thing I would say I don't this is entirely necessary is the speech texts staying on for so long, simply because it made the sequential texts harder to read. Well, done sir! 5/5
Really fun and cool looking. I like the classic megaman style gameplay, but I wish I could make the bullets come out as fast as I could in that series. I also really love how the biggest issue the player faces is not so much the enemies, but rather the destruction of the blocks. I agree though that it would be better with upgrades. Maybe there could be a boss every so often that has a special skill. Once you beat it, you get that skill, the stage's blocks reset, and the next wave of enemies are slightly harder.
I really liked it, but it gets a bit tedious and difficult. I died on the third fight. Maybe if the healing was just a little more powerful. Sweet animations and cool sound effects, though :)
I love it! So many memories. It looks AND plays like an nes game, something which so difficult to emulate today, especially in flash games. Also, the music is a wonderful match. Different elements are obviously influenced by the different games that are referenced by the art. Excellent job!
Wonderful game, UG! I did experience a bit of lag, but nothing that bothered me all that much or caused death. Looking at the clock, I just realized what I thought had been 10 minutes has actually been an hour an a half. Excellent experience 5/5
Cool game, but I think there are a few things that will make it really great: being able to upgrade the chance of getting a certain weapon. Too often have I gone for a while with only being offered a pistol when I have unlocked the minigun. I'd also love to see more distinct silhouettes on the crates. Maybe one for each category of weapon. I've played enough shooters to know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, but I can't identify different types of guns by their shape, and whenever I buy a bunch of upgrades, I get thrown off as to what's what. Finally, I believe it needs a bit more variety: different bosses or a different background stage between each. In addition, it would be really helpful to have a progress meter that shows my current percent of completion, so I can at least figure out if I'm coming up on a boss so I can decide whether to save or use my weapon.
Hmmm... vector graphics, insta-death upon exiting the screen, and Flixel's default cursor. Was this made in Stencyl? If so, then you did a stupendous job proving its potential as a game developing program!
I really love this set of games. There are two things I'd love to see happen next. 1) A sandbox mode where you can create your own levels. 2) A player pack installment with levels that people created.
Hey, I'm really sorry about all the bugs, everybody. The timer's fixed now. It was just a really minute typing error. I would have like to do a lot more with this game, but I only had 3 days on a holiday weekend. I'll continue work after the voting period is over. Feel free to send me a PM or comment if you have any good suggestions. Thanks so much for playing and be sure to check back for updates!
EDIT 16/09/11: There's now more challenges in place of a timer. You can't die because of the time now but you can do the best time you can! Good Luck! [ .. ]
This is a totally awesome program that I use almost every day now! If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I'd like to see at least a preview of the game description whenever I click random.
