I still really want to like this game. A little more constructive criticism compared to my last post...
Performance: stellar.
Controls: When I place a tower down, it should start shooting IMMEDIATELY.
When I click on a tower type, I can only mean one thing: "I want to place this tower type, not what I had selected before". Please honor my wish, don't make me actually press 'C' to cancel my previous selection. (Sure, I have a way to get what I want, but interfaces are either smooth or annoying. Don't annoy us.)
Let me shift-click to drop another of the same tower in a new location. (It's annoying to have to mouse back to get the next tower.)
There are other similar complaints, but you get the idea. Smooth out the interface, the graphics and performance are fine.
Difficulty level: it's pretty easy until you get to level 70 of the last maze.
I really wanted to like this game. But it has horrible controls. Horrible, horrible, horrible. An interface that prevents you from dropping multiple towers quickly is stupid. Get rid of the stupid, stupid, stupid, really f*cking stupid "immediate upgrade screen that locks your controls".
1/5 until the controls get updated.
Oh, did I mention: cute premise with a HORRIBLE CONTROL SYSTEM.
Hotkeys will help, but using your mouse shouldn't be intentionally difficult.
If you get too close to the edge such that your control circle is outside the play area, the plane dies. You can't get the control circle to display. Suggest that program always puts the control circle in the play area.
Morcaster, whether or not Games Workshop will win a case is almost secondary. They are notoriously aggressive in defending their intellectual property, they claim copyright to "Space Marines", and they have good lawyers and deep pockets. The name of this game is just asking for trouble.
4/5. Loses a point due to lack of pvp, and several annoying aspects of play:
- If I only have 1 color of energy available, don't ask me what color to use when paying for a +1 card.
- Give me a way to turn off the "here's the card you just drew" feature. After a while, I know the cards by the pictures and I can always mouse over them anyway.
- Add a 'have everything attack' button.
Lastly, AI could get better to prove more of a challenge just by improving decision of when to block.
Whatever else you can say about this game, the fact that the poison towers are smart enough not to shoot creatures that are already poisoned is AWESOME. Full stars for that! But you need to balance it, poison is too powerful. My suggestion is, that poison should not by itself be able to kill a creeper. You have to actually hit it with something to finish it off.
Currently poison needs to be nerfed big time. After you get enough start money to build a poison tower, on most levels you will never need to build anything except three towers. Build a poison tower near the entrance. When you get enough cash, buy a second one right near the first one. Now you can send three or four waves at a time, because the second tower will poison what ever the first tower misses. Save up your cash and buy a super tower near the end of the course, after the poison has done it's work. Upgrade the super tower until you run out of levels.
Good execution. Nice idea. But after you get the feel for the logic, the game becomes too easy. You use the same principles to solve each subsection of the grid each time. So later puzzles just become longer, not more difficult or involving. Perhaps require the tiles to be moved from place to place? Add different colors which rotate separately? I dunno, but something needs to add progressive difficulty.
I agree with cyberdm, decent engine. But I have to agree with the other players, too. Boring levels, no ending, and side-wall bugs keep me from giving a good rating. I'll wait until the next version with the killer level designs and the cool power-ups. :)
