The compound bow kicks ass. Aim for the head = awesome. Chainsaw and compound bow. Owning. Then when you get the hunting rifle, that can take the place of the bow. Just aim for head shots all day, erry day. You can sometimes take down 2 or 3 zombies at once.
Guys, trust me, even the last boss isn't too bad. (he is the hardest, of course, but totally beatable) Basic idea is to never let the enemy get purple or grey combos. Even if you have to give up your current turn to do it. You just have to be able to read the gems, and see what consequences your combo will have. Also since the gems at the top of the screen are random, it's usually best to do a horizontal 3 combo, rather than a vertical combo, if you have the choice. Another tip is, if there are 2 purple combos to get, instead of you getting 1, try to get a defense or counter combo. The AI will always go for a purple gem combo. By using a defense/counter combo you lessen the total effect of his combo. Another tip is, you can leave your character on a fight, go browse some stuff, and come back to free gems. (each higher boss gives more gems/does more damage)
Oooh, made it to the last boss with no upgrades. Weak as possible Ryu. The last boss is probably impossible with 0 upgrades, without several dozen miracles.
A couple tips: Almost always try to get the purples, and greys. If you can't get them, try to get reds and greens. Always watch out for setting up the enemy with a follow up attack. Mostly ignore yellows/blues/pinks. If you see that the enemy will get a purple/grey after you do a combo, don't do it. Instead, wait for a time out. The enemy will go for the pinks/yellows/blues if it can't get a purple/grey. Then this will set you up for getting the purple/greys first. I wish there was a skip turn, but you have to wait for the 20 seconds to pass. The only exception for getting purple/greys, is getting a 4+ of a kind. I find Ryu the easiest with his high HP. One more exception, if the enemy has 2 chances to get purples/greys and you can't stop them, instead try to use a blue blocker, or pink counter. 100% blue blocker is great if you can set up the boss to use rage against it. 100% block + counter is even sweeter. Also, if the enemy is out of energy, you should take all the yellows ASAP.
AHAHAHAHAHAAH, last boss. Got a 5 match black hole. Used it on the Counter Attack gems, because, whatever, I didn't want them. Ended up with 396% counter attack. It massive combos me to 100% defense, and a rage attack. Boss still high life and me kind of low. Boss then attacks me. Uh oh, but wait, I have 100% defense for 0 damage. LOL. And My 396% counter goes into effect. ROFLOLOLOL. WIN!! Random game. IDK, for this game to be more skill based we need to see what's above the screen so we can maybe plan for it. And the no matches randomizer needs to be redone. Maybe just make it dissolve the bottom row of gems every 3 turns.
I like the game. Definitely potential. How do you beat the Dwarf quest? I think it might be bugged for me. There are also a bunch of other bugs with the game, I might list later.
@Templar, I just beat Level 4 again, with NO upgrades (I just put all the upgrades into Liches and Vampires so they have no effect on me for this test) with just Minotaurs in the center and sides (maximize range), and then threw in some Manticores (anti flyers) much later and some spike traps. I am using Chaotic Ranger, Medium difficulty. Move your hero up to center to shoot arrows too while the minotaurs blocked. I barely had to do anything. (the best upgrade tactic is to reset and apply the points to your newly unlocked units, your hero goes up 1 level every map, that means 1 new unit every map. I also like spike trap upgrades, put them 1 spot ahead of your melee units)
Stage 4 wasn't that hard. Just make sure you guys have Minotaurs and lots of them, with the Beefy upgrade. Worked fine for me. Important thing in this game is to reset your Upgrades for the next map correctly. That's why you get so few points, because you are supposed to be strategic. If you want a general strategy though, the hero avatar upgrades are always okay, especially Alchemy. The 3rd Manticore is nice too. I find the archer to be best. He can take some hits, but also do range kiting cheeze.
► ► ► Make Tons Of Money tricks: First, medals are the best way to make money. The game only gives you 27. But if you want them again, you can reset them. Make a second save file, then delete it. Bam, reset medals! Next up is that you can redo any mission by tapping the P key, and using Restart or Quit. The good thing is it saves your medal progress! That means you can do a mission over & over for the medals, without going to a higher mission where all the soldiers take longer to kill. The final 2 tips are, grenade medals can be refreshed this way too. Throw a grenade with the 1 key, P key, restart, throw a grenade, repeat for the grenade medal. Final tip is, try to do this on a mission that has the Pacifier rockets drop crate and no dialogue. Kill enemies reaallll quick (and get the damage medal quick) ► ► ► To beat last boss, watch the hammer shadows. Kill hammer boss first. ► ► ► Thumb this comment up if you think it will help people get those crazy expensive final upgrades. ☻☺☻☺

I agree on the back pack being pretty terrible for making money. It doesn't even work on the medal awards. It only works on the after battle money. I'd have to try it make a lot more notes to know for sure, but beyond the first few backbacks, they just get too expensive to justify any earning they might give later.

► ► ► How to get Gold Items and making money ► Use the End Day button (Escape key) after using up your Gigaball shots / Rams. There's no point in fighting till midnight. Go back to port, sell items, buy more ammo/rams, go back out. The easiest quest is the Treasure Hunting quest, it's real easy to get the Gold Item usually. To ~85% of the time find the gold item, first click on a spot on the far east/west on the island that has more water, in either row 3/4. If you get a number that is 4 5 or 6, you have a 100% chance of finding Gold. Now move your cursor left/right the number of squares indicated, then up/down the same number, and search there. Now, move up/down the new number of squares. You will either find the gold item,or have a 50% chance of finding the item. This makes the Treasure Hunt the easiest/quickest quest to do. Now,keep reloading End Day,to get these quests and buying Charge+1 dragoon ram for speed sailing. After, buy Shooting Gallery
► ► ► Lasers are Over Powered. 1 laser, on any floor, no other weapons, can win any floor by itself. No upgrading. No manual shooting. Nothing. All floors. No set up of enemies makes it past the half way point. ► ► ►In addition, the first 10 floors can be beaten with just a set of 3 Turrets that cost 100 each. And that's way past the point where you should have a few lasers. ► ► ► EZ Win technique = 3 Turrets, upgrade to 1 laser per floor. Win.
► ► ► Zoolander: *"What is this?? A ship made for ants?!"* ((in reference to how my ship can only hold maybe 4 or 5 rings)) That's one tiny ship!! *"How can we expect our pirates to plunder, if they can't even fit inside the ship?"* Oh, if I expand the cargo area I can hold a whole 8 rings! Oh wow. :) *SMASHES SHIP ONTO THE GROUND* "I have a vision..."
► ► ► Wait, so, why don't I just fill up my Cargo bay, then just manually end the day? When I do that I always sell the maximum loot AND I repair AND I get a new set of random quests? Seems like the loot system is easy to exploit.
I corrected some bugs in this new version.
