Games like this use space to jump for the same reason that old console games used A or B or X or whatever to jump, rather than up on the directional pad. I'm more used to games like that than I am to games which use up for jumping; up-key-jumping feels weird and unpleasant to me, and I've always thought it had a sort of 'amateurish' feel to it.
A few people have mentioned a problem where you lose keys after ending a level, and I've tested it and found that it does indeed happen. I'll fix it and then upload and updated version.
I've uploaded an update that should allow you to get the chalices if you missed them (monsters are rarer rather than gone completely), and I've also hopefully fixed the bug where pixies or fairies used their status gas attack repeatedly when they should only have used it once.
Sorry... When I uploaded this, I never thought about the contest thing at all. I was just trying to be helpful and to give people the answers to questions pre-emptively, since Chapter 3 is rather complex and has quite a lot of hidden stuff. There was a walkthrough on my site for chapter 2 that got quite a lot of regular hits, so I thought I'd do Kongregate - my sponsor - a favour by directing hits to their site instead, which is why this is uploaded here as a 'game'... Anyway, I'm going to work on finishing the missing bits now that the initial stress of releasing Chapter 3 is over.
I must say I'm impressed by the comments that've been posted here overnight! Earlier, I was feeling annoyed at what seemed like a large number of 'haters', but now basically all the comments are positive and many are lengthy too (I always appreciate detail). So thank you, people!
Also, for anyone who's having difficulty with the saving, please heed the starting screen things. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST FLASH PLAYER VERSION! This is very important, as even slightly older versions have really weird problems sometimes. And make sure you allowed enough space for saving, too.
phvlad, the information shown for skills on items only applies to whoever's inventory is currently selected in blue, so if Mardek's is currently selected and you rollover an item that Emela has equipped, it'll say 'Cannot Learn' because *Mardek* can't learn those skills.
Hidden passages are not a bug...
Also, I've uploaded an update which no longer has the Local Storage Settings thing pop up automatically, since people seemed to be unable to get past that sometimes. AND YOU CAN STACK ITEMS BY USING THE S KEY. There's a HELP section for a reason.
If you have save issues, then please MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST FLASH PLAYER VERSION. This is really important, since for some reason some *slightly* older ones are buggy with saving. There's a screen at the start that will provide you with a huge 'Get Latest' button if you aren't using a new enough version.
For all my years of work on this game, the score isn't as high as I'd hoped... Is there anything I can improve in the game to improve the rating? Suggestions would be useful.
It's not even so much the fact that people like or don't like the game that gets to me; it's the mentality that many commenters seem to have... Posting without thinking that a person will read what they write, not having the patience to play the game for more than a few seconds before judging it, after all the time that went into making it. I know such people will always exist, but it bothers me that they do, every time I post a game somewhere for The Masses to play. Anyway, uh, I was just mainly hoping that if people are critical, they could be constructively critical or something instead of just spouting bile. That way I could potentially improve the game.
Though I'm really appreciative of my supporters and the people who've waited so long for this game, as always with sites like this, the lack of empathy and thought in some peoples' comments is really disappointing and lowers my opinion of humanity all the more... Do such people realise that this game is made by a real person with feelings, or do they just assume it popped into existence or was built by some faceless corporation? Would they wish to receive the comments they give to others, especially if received on a work they'd spent years of their live slaving over and which they'd poured their heart into? Do they have the capacity for patience, empathy, etc? It's a shame that many comments make me think 'no, they do not'. I know not everyone can be pleased, but I really wish people would think before they comment. Really. Is it so hard?
I fixed the map problem a while ago... I hope. Please make sure you're playing v3.3.055 (refresh if you're not). You can check the version number from the preloader, title screen or Options menu.
Attention: THE STICKY KEYS THING IS A SYMPTOM OF INTERNET EXPLORER. Please switch to another browser or search the forums on this site for 'sticky keys'; there are threads about it with solutions if for some incomprehensible reason you'd prefer to stick with IE.
Have you tried clicking on whatever kind of Close button or icon there is on the little grey thing in the middle of the screen? That thing is a control panel, rather than an image or anything, and you need to dismiss it before you can do anything else due to how Flash works, unfortunately.
Ehergiz, the item you missed out on wasn't anything important - it was a 'PhoenixPinion' - and you won't get the item if I update (there are a bunch of others in the game anyway). It's also rather tricky to get Zach to join you if you talked to him but he didn't before, though that character is entirely optional anyway so you'll still be able to do everything in the game without him. I'll see what I can do though...
I just made a small but significant update... Apparently an ally later in the game was unable to properly join your party, so it'd be a good idea to refresh to make sure you're playing the latest version...
I have tweaked the starting levels as of v3.3.055 and given Mardek some new skills he'd normally have learned in chapter 2 (and I've weakened some monsters too).
