I actually integrated the thing about the lag into the game, so it SHOULD be clear now... But even when it's shoved in peoples' faces, it wouldn't be at all surprising if loads of people STILL complained.
Have you ever played NES games though? This is meant to be reminiscent of those, which DID have clunky control when jumping and were largely jumping rather than, say, combat with enemies... I wish that people would look at the game as what it's meant to be rather than disliking it for what it's not...
Also, I can't even understand *where* people would use the 'hold UP to grab ladders' thing, since it just seems awkward for me and makes things more difficult... But oh well. People asked for it. If there is anything else that people want to see changed, I'll try to fix it also to make the game less unbearable for people...
(Oh, and Intermediate is unlocked at the start too for those saying they wanted a 'challenge'... Which of course means loads of people whose pride is greater than their skill will start on that and complain that the game is too hard. I really can't win...)
I made some changes... HOLDING UP now allows you to grab ladders when jumping, though I really don't think that's the best way to do things. Also, a BIG, STUPIDLY CLEAR warning comes up with the fix for the lag, which I bet people will STILL ignore!
Also, the main reason you don't just grab ladders when you come into contact with them is because a) I've never played a game that does that before, and b) you have more CONTROL over grabbing ladders this way. It's possible to drop down a ladder and then only grab it at the bottom rather than climbing all the way down it, but if you auto-grabbed, that would be more difficult or maybe impossible. I am really feeling quite despaired that people can't just try to get used to the controls... Does every other game you play have IDENTICAL CONTROLS? Ugh... I also wish that people would realise that I personally am on the receiving end of these comments, so I really wish that people would offer constructive criticism rather than just the idiotic dismissive comments that many are leaving...
An overwhelming majority of these comments are tormenting to me as the developer... People complain about the most trivial of things and call my hard work crap for their own ineptitude or lack of patience or INABILITY TO READ THE UPDATES SECTION, and I just WISH that they could be on the receiving end of their own disgusting, non-constructive comments to see how they'd feel.
Since so many people don't take the time to read what is right on the page there about the solution to the lag, is there any way I can make it MORE OBVIOUS to reduce the number of complaints?
I've always considered UP used for jumping to be really uncomfortable since I always think as jumping as a separate action rather than merely a means of navigation; I consider going up and down ladders or 'up' through doors to be navigation though. In the NES, SNES, Gameboy, etc games that inspired me, jumping was always a separate action on the non-d-pad buttons, and UP was always used in the way it is in this game... It works better *if you take the time to get used to it*, but the problem seems to be that people don't want to take any time to get used to unfamiliar controls, which is a bother.
If you used A for interacting with ladders, how exactly would it cause you to interact with them? Would you move up the ladder by holding A? How then would you move down the ladder?
That first room is sort of designed so that you land on the platform, not the vine, and it's a race against time... But I suppose it is a bit much for the *first room* and I should change it. Maybe I'll do that now...
To the person who said that they don't understand why up isn't jump, uh... For one thing, I've never liked games that use 'up' for jump because I never played any old console games using UP for jump, and also, you are suggesting that you have A for *climbing ladders*? You think having A as jump is sillier than having A as climbing ladders and entering doors?
