Actually, I find Mytheria's quests to be more informative, better balanced, and more rewarding a.k.a FUN.
When playing level 1 "random elements", you pay 2 gold for the priviledge, yet may lose or only win 1 gold even IF you win. The opponents can and often do have cards that are unavailable to you in the bazaar. I win a match and get to spin for a chance to win a card, and am teased by two pair when I need three of a kind more often than not. If and when I DO win a card, chances are extremely high that I won't be able to use it with my current deck since I am improving the deck by concentrating on my chosen elemental affiliation and a few others.
I've attempted a few level 2 matches, which is how I went broke fast a few days ago. Obviously, my deck needs more improvement. Progress is slow and tedious with this game.
I have played for roughly four hours, not counting idle time.
I have won ONE card.
I have improved my deck slightly, only to lose gold on level 1 play because the level one random opponents tend to have many cards that are unavailable at the bazaar and that I can only hope to win by beating them repeatedly.
I am down to zero gold, and I may or may not return to this game because I really don't like having to grind this long for so little.
Other than the odds, 5/5.
too easy, too small, no need to think... more of an interactive advertisement, which I find annoying even when I am aware that I am being asked to look at/listen to an interactive ad.
Awesome game in many ways, but there is a focus on perfectionism throughout the series that isn't new player friendly, nor friendly to people who may not have the best eye-hand co-ordination. Mess up a little early on and you are destined by design to mess up more further on. If the point is to restart and improve, then how many levels/scenarios would you have the players memorize? I like all three games in this series but my favorite casual collective game is Desktop Armada - when it isn't lagging out.
Level 1: Build mostly cheap shops on the right half of the screen. Upgrade. Put in a bus stop on day 6 or 7. Build more expensive shops on the left. Place the restaurant farthest left, as the customers spend so much time in it that it breaks them into a manageable group. Upgrade.
Level 16: Repeat above.
If discussing a "sweet" deck, one should also be discussing the deck(s) the "sweet" deck is sweet against! I mostly agree on the "sweetness" factor of the decks/cards described by apples and Swoon43, but that is because the work well with my playing style.
Ubuntu in ANY deck will be sweet against MANY other cards, Corny, Monte, Helene and Tafari in particular IF the Ubuntu owner plays decently.
This game is pretty well balanced, although newbie mistakes can make it seem very unbalanced, including newbie mistakes in choosing starter cards. Newbies complain about being matched with skilled opponents in unranked matches, but those are an opportunity to observe and learn like no other - once they've gotten to the point where they no longer need the tool tips.
Needs a save feature. The password is so-so, but is an annoyance on a public machine with limited save privs for guests. Gemcraft 0 is doing a password AND local saves with cookies.
I really enjoy this game and the other in the series, although that one's difficulty got a little ridiculous for me.
For doomasmurf: Try playing the tutorial to learn how to kill the zombies.
Dear Newbies who just started: You should welcome the priveledge of playing against a level 16, rather than another newbie, atleast in unranked. Are you likely to learn anything from someone else who also knows little about the game? Watch and learn from those who are more experienced before playing ranked matches, and your own rank will rise fast when you put what you've learned into practice in ranked matches. Be polite and ask for tips after the game, too.
I don't like the phylactery. I've seen enough non-random matches on this site to know that some get to cheat while others are cheated. 2/5 for the phylactery.
6:59 pm EST, and it isn't loading. Yes, this machine has Flash 10. Error on page detail a line 2 problem, object not supported, char 132859 blah blah blah.
It has been pointed out that there are plenty of Breakout knock-offs in existence. Congradulations! While many have graphics that defeat the gameplay or physics that destroy it, this one is very well done. :) 5/5
