Here's a thought: go multiplayer with this game. While I'm not a fan of the multiplayer genre, the play style of this game might work if you took that direction. Keep your campaign mode, add some PvP fights. Probably need some re-adjustments of awards in those PvP fights. Really, the game is so long and a grind push that without PvP I can't see the point anyway. You even have a timer implemented for the reset of shop items and gladiator hires. Who is that timer for? I don't need to wait around for no reason, but within a multiplayer game that timer would make sense. I don't often resort to the "make it multiplayer" card when it comes to commentary, but this game's development process seems half way there to a multiplayer possibility.
At first I loved it, but I'm still in the first city and already having to grind away for gold before I can outfit my team to the point that they advance one more tier. Definitely the biggest problem. It's a slow pace, gets monotonous after a while and way too grind oriented.
I know how to read Flash within my browser, and your game isn't taking three hours to load; it's loading straight away and isn't a game at all. There's simply nothing. 1/5.
It might be a good brawler... if I knew what the hell I was doing. Get a translator so I can learn how to play the game. As it stands, nearly everything is confusing. From what I have garnered from playing, I'd suggest implementing a cancel for the basic attack combo. It's fairly absurd when I can't counter an attack I can see from a mile away when my avatar is too busy trying to finish her basic four move sequence. Well, at least you ripped good music. Castlevania and Star Ocean tracks. That was nice.
Loading my save takes me to the last level I just cleared. This means I have to beat the same level all over again before I can begin to try and re-run the level I was just on. Very bad. Also, later levels are all about memorizing patterns. Not the kind of challenge I want for a reflex oriented running game. Finally, the drag of time when I fail is frustrating. I lose a lot. I imagine most of us do. Let me restart pretty much immediately when I die. I don't need to see a message that states 'you failed' for five seconds every single time. I still enjoy it okay, but it's much like the first Run Ninja Run.
Played for an hour or two and saved up enough for a new weapon, then noticed the purchase was a temporary upgrade, hinged on a timer? No, that made me quit. There's an option for a permanent purchase that costs "coins". Still no idea how to get coins though. I really hope this isn't a money grabbing scheme and that weapons can be purchased permanently through real effort and time, and not my wallet.
The load time for each track is a killer on my machine, especially since in the later (harder) levels every time I fail I have to wait such a long time all over again. But it feels like a fun arcade racer. Emphasis is definitely placed on speed and boost pickups. Great visuals, but again, a long load time for each new race; at least it is for me.
Pretty fun little brawler. I like the art style and the dialogue made me laugh. Some constructive criticism: the combat feels basic. While multiple weapons and disarming enemies was cool, more player moves would help break up the monotony. Also, I've never been a fan of jump + attack for the special move on a keyboard. I inevitably end up doing a regular jump attack at some critical moment. As for score, I assume coins add to it? I'd like a score counter in the game window, in traditional arcade style, not just a total at the end. It would help to reveal how score is calculated. Finally, score resets when you go back to the map after clearing a level. Would it be possible to only reset upon death? I don't often have the hours of the free time it takes to clear the game from start to finish in one go, and having my score kneecapped because of it is unfortunate.
No sound effects, no music, and endless clickfest gameplay. Sticking the link to your site in the middle of the page upon game over, on a game where you're clicking endlessly, is pretty cheap too. Also, the intro scares me.
I think it's great and agree with Rykuth's and Raethyan's comments. I loved Populous in my day, but both clarity of view in the isometric tiered landscape and cursor manipulation were big problems in the original Populous. These things aren't corrected here. With these old issues fixed you have more than a homage to Peter Molyneux's brainchild, but a proper update. Oh, and I definitely dig the Amiga-style chiptunes. Kudos to Eric Skiff.
This game is a great example of why it's so frustrating to check out the "new" category of games on Kong. All you have to go on is a title, a picture and 100 characters or so of description. Ratings are pending and so you have no idea if it's the next big thing or... this.
It might be good with a lot of work. As it stands, I can't understand what the purchases even do (aside from dynamite). The instructions don't explain them. The shoot angle of your cast feels overly difficult to gauge as well. This part is the heart of the game, so I don't want it overly simplified, but as it stands I feel cheated much of the time.
I was really enjoying the futuristic dystopia setting. As has been said, combat was a little basic. I'd have preferred a more engaging brawler to the hit-and-run aspect that was implemented. Really though, anything more engaging than what is in place will settle well with me. The killer though, was the same bug issue as user vashsghost commented: my game freezes at the scene where the Syndicate head is captured, laughs maniacally, and then freezes my god damn game. I am NOT going to replay this game until I see an update the fixes this bug.
Kind of dismayed to see that the bugs and issues from the v2.0 release (sound glitches, lack of pause, the list goes on) were not addressed at all. And for that matter, why does each update get a separate release? If the game ever gets any persistent features, like saving high scores, achievements or what have you, releasing each mini update as a brand new game isn't going to fly.
sorry....
